A Picture and Its Interpretation

So let me start off by saying…I’ve never really kept a blog so this whole thing is new to me, but I’m excited to see what I learn from it because some of my friends have really found a great sense of accomplishment from keeping one.

So as I look at the picture and think about what this could possibly mean from the book PL. My interpretation is based on my experiences and where I come from/my family history. When I see the image on the surface it is clearly an image of a woman caring for a child. However when I look further into this I see that this woman is the caretaker/housekeeper. She does not seem as if she is interested in the child because to her she is just doing her job. Her only connection to the child is that this is her job because although she is holding the baby she is not paying attention to the baby. The baby seems to be equally distant from her as she is to the baby. Not holding onto her the way a child would cling to its mother.
However, this may not be what the photographer wanted to portray because I am not the photographer. The photographer could have wanted to portray racial tension or a person on the street or something specific to the time period. They could have wanted to address motifs or some form of parallel. FA talks about how we can may never really understand what the photographer, producer, or director is trying to get from a picture until we speak or read about the original goal.
